Snow Patrol are an Irish alternative rock band. When creating “Eyes Open”, the band visited Dingle, on Ireland's west coast and started writing new material (small remote area) which allowed the band more time and freedom to write than previously before and adopt a “writing as it comes” approach to composing.
In a way the band went back to its home roots and revolved around their original inspirations when composing this album; (the band's record collections, musical tastes and influences).
According to them, “The album title does not mean anything specific and that it can have its own meaning to different people
With this in mind, the band’s audience that have taken an interest to their musicality in the past will do so again, marketing “Eyes Open” was simply about communicating the same messages in a new way.
When compared to the album cover of “Final Straw” by Snow Patrol, they use a landscape and sketch of a couple centered in the middle of the cover. With Eyes Open, it appears the location is irrelevant, so that their music will be more orientated on the couple abstractly imposed onto the cover. This would be backed up by such song titles as “You are all that I have” and “Make this go on forever”. The cover design works well as it is in fact taking the same message from a previous album and communicating it in a new way, to an audience that will share this common interest.
Illustrations would appear simple, yet complex due to the apparent distortion of the simple couple silhouette on the cover, which are complex and are difficult to understand the connotations, yet they are attractive and appealing to look at from an audience point of view.
