Male Gaze: Casino Royale

  1. ...The patriarchal society is about the status of the male genre over the female gender, perhaps a sense of authority in favor of the male, often acting as the dominant figures which is evident in Casino Royale....

A little muddled here Ian. We live in a patriarchal society in that the institutions are dominated by men and this includes the entertainment industry. Though the representation of women in Bond films has progressed in the last 40 odd years Bond is still represented as the dominant male presented with erotic opportunities, one being Vesper in "Casino Royale".
Vesper is intelligent but is an example of the archetyp femme fatale. She is clever, devious and manipulative and glamorous. In the end she pays the ultimate price - so one could say that she is a product of mysogyny, and as you've explained very much an example of the male gaze.
....Vesper “washing blood off her hands” sitting in the shower, hurt and weak
Bond sits with her and calms her, shoulder....

Note the representation of Bond here is an example of "new man", in this sequence Bond is vulnerable and sensitive thus the character has become more 3 dimensional and thus more believable.

"M" is an example of more progressive representation of women in films. I think the 2 latest Bond film are successful because they're not so insulting to female audiences.

Ian make sure you post narrative theory on your blog.
